Short Biography of Grandmaster Datong
Grandmaster Datong (Master Letian): A Chinese-American, founder of “Feng Huang Yuan – The Return of Life to Great Cosmic Unity System” and “Tian Gong” (predecessor of Feng Huang Yuan), and chairman of Feng Huang Yuan International Association and Tian Gong International Foundation. He currently resides in San Francisco, United States.
Grandmaster Datong was born in Zhu'an Village, which is situated on the bank of Nanxi River in Yongjia County, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, on the coast of the East China Sea.
Yongjia has 5,000 years of history of civilization and 2,200 years of history of city construction. It has been endowed with incredible aura, propitious for producing talented people and has a prosperous humanity and culture. Nanxi River with three hundred miles of scenic landscapes within the river basin, is a national-level scenic spot in China, “beautiful water, odd rocks, many waterfalls, and ancient villages”. For nearly two thousand years, Yongjia has been prevalent in regard to “taking poetry and books as heirloom and regarding farming-reading culture as family heritage” and has profound cultural heritage of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. It is “the cradle of Chinese landscape poetry”, “the birthplace of Chinese Feng Shui”, and also the birthplace of the famous “Yongjia School of Thought”, “Yongjia Four Spirits” and “Master Yongjia” in the history of Chinese culture. Grandmaster was weak and sickly since his childhood and he came from a poor family. In an attempt to regain his health and to continue his education, he began to apprentice under masters to practice Taijiquan and Qigong at the age of fifteen. When he came of age, he studied diligently Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism in Chinese culture.
